Children of all ages, young and old, will be able to amaze any audience after practicing this easy to learn magic trick of the disappearing coin into the elbow. For the beginner entertainer, performing a successful magic trick is an enjoyable act. The vanished coin will leave viewers wondering how exactly the coin disappeared and have them asking for more.
Supplies Needed
While other tricks may require special props or supplies, all that a novice magician needs for the disappearing coin trick is a coin. Since any coin will do, the magician can use a piece of change from his own pocket or he may choose to ask someone in the audience to provide a penny, nickel, dime, or quarter to use for the trick. Whatever way the coin is obtained the magician is then ready to demonstrate his mystifying feat.
Practice Makes Perfect
The act begins with the magician holding up the coin and announcing he is going to make the coin disappear from his hand by rubbing the coin into his elbow! With a little practice of executing the trick, the magician will surprise all who witness the astonishing performance. They will be puzzled by the magic trick's simplicity.
After the magician informs the viewers of his intention, he proceeds with the trick. He bends his arm by placing his left hand on his own left shoulder and then raises his left elbow in front of him. With his right hand he holds the coin out so the coin can be seen by all and starts to rub the coin into his elbow. Acting, he accidentally drops the coin, pretends to be embarrassed, picks it up, rubs the coin into his elbow and completes his trick by holding both hands out revealing the coin is indeed gone.
The Simple Trick
The viewers are distracted by the coin ‘mistakenly’ slipping and dropping from the magician’s hand. Taking advantage of the intended situation, the magician cleverly and artfully picks the coin up with his left hand (pretending to pick it up with his right) and discreetly places the coin onto his left shoulder under his shirt. He quickly continues to ‘pretend’ rub the coin into his elbow. Since the coin is safely positioned and balanced on his left shoulder, he is able to carefully stretch both hands out, proving the coin has disappeared.
Learning and Performing Magic
The magician could then continue the trick by announcing he will have the coin reappear out of his elbow. This part requires some sharp and quick hand movements and may be decided not to be done on first performance. When chosen to do, then upon his statement of reappearance, he places his left hand back on his left shoulder and picks up the coin from on his shoulder and holds it hidden in his left hand. At the same time the magician is pretending to massage the coin back out of his left elbow with his right hand.
After he has the coin and after he has massaged his elbow (pretending to pull the coin back out), he quickly swings and slides his left hand down as his right hand slides up and meets the left hand which allows the coin to exchange hands. The magician then holds the coin in his right hand for all to see.
Magic is a fascinating hobby. Children who learn and perform magic tricks are proud of their baffling talent and enjoy enchanting others. The disappearing coin into the elbow is a simple magic trick which can launch a child’s magical interest.
